Since fall 2006, Zeta Tau has required all of its collegiate members to complete and pass AlcoholEdu® for College, an online alcohol prevention program or GreekLifeEduTM, a program focusing on three core subject areas: alcohol, hazing and sexual assault. These decisions reflect ZTA’s commitment to the overall health and welfare of its members. This committment was recently recognized by Outside The Classroom as a recipient of their Prevention Excellence Award.
About 10-20 percent of the content in GreekLifeEdu overlaps with AlcoholEdu in order to reinforce critical content for those students participating in both programs. Many universities require the completion of AlcoholEdu for all of their students. Zeta Tau Alpha now utilizes GreekLifeEdu as it is better designed to meet the needs of students joining Greek organizations by not only focusing on alcohol, but on hazing and sexual assault as well.
In 2010-2011, ZTA had a 98 percent completion rate for the AlcoholEdu and GreekLifeEdu programs, and 25,000 members have completed the course since 2006. From studies after the first full year of using AlcoholEdu, ZTA found that 75 percent of members reported they found the course useful, 74 percent said they learned more about Blood Alcohol Content, and 64 percent said the course prompted them to talk about alcohol abuse with their friends. The Fraternity also looks for similarly good results in all three areas of GreekLifeEdu.
As with AlcoholEdu, funding for ZTA’s implementation of GreekLifeEdu is provided by the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation.
