Use of ZTA Insignia

The name “Zeta Tau Alpha,” the letters “ZTA,” the word “Themis,” and the design of our Coat of Arms are registered trademarks of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity. The terms "Think Pink®," "Think Pink. Think Zeta.®" and "Take Charge. Think Pink.®" are registered trademarks of the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation. ZTA has an approval right over all designs and products that depict any of these trademarks.

Upon initiation, members earn the honor of displaying Zeta Tau Alpha trademarks but do not receive ownership of those trademarks. Furthermore, members of ZTA do not have the right to authorize vendors to produce trademarked merchandise.

In order to safeguard the appropriate use of our federally registered trademarks and to guarantee quality products, Zeta Tau Alpha is one of many Greek organizations that have entered into a trademark licensing agreement with Affinity Marketing Consultants (AMC). All commercial use of Zeta Tau Alpha’s trademarks must be administered through a license agreement with Zeta Tau Alpha.

Members of Zeta Tau Alpha shall obtain items of official Zeta Tau Alpha insignia, and any items or products bearing a designation or representation of the name(s) “Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity” and “Zeta Tau Alpha”, Greek letters, Coat of Arms, corporate logo, seal, member badge, among other marks determined by the Fraternity from time to time, only from those persons or companies specifically authorized by the National President.

Chapters wishing to use the term "Think Pink.®," "Think Pink. Think Zeta.®" or "Take Charge. Think Pink.®" must receive advance permission from the ZTA Foundation. Permission forms are available from the Foundation and on the ZTA website.

We encourage members of Zeta Tau Alpha to support our organization and buy exclusively from Crown & Co. and officially licensed Zeta Tau Alpha vendors. Members may also purchase official merchandise from retailers as long as the merchandise has the Greek Licensed Product logo. However, retail establishments that wish to use our trademarks to customize items by screen printing, embroidery, hand painting or other methods, must become an officially licensed vendor.

Visit www.greeklicensing.com → Clients → Zeta Tau Alpha to shop for additional official products, as well as access a national network of approved vendors and get multiple quotes for your custom order needs. When shopping for Zeta Tau Alpha merchandise, look for these logos:

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

The use of any Zeta Tau Alpha trademark on any product or design that attempts to glorify alcohol, hazing, sexism, racism, or any other image that conflicts with the ideals and principles of the Fraternity is prohibited.

Zeta Tau Alpha will not license any form of paddle.

Zeta Tau Alpha will also not license any form of glassware (wine glass, shot glass, beer mug), even if they are marketed as flutes, collector’s glasses, and mugs.

No pictures that show alcoholic beverages may display the words Zeta Tau Alpha or ZTA on the printed photograph.

Can our chapter still order custom shirts and gifts from local vendors?

  • Yes, but only if that local vendor is licensed by ZTA and AMC. If you would like to nominate a vendor to become licensed with ZTA, please send the company’s information, including name, address, phone, e-mail and Internet address to vendors@greeklicensing.com.

How long will it take to get our shirts

  • Licensing approval is granted very quickly upon the licensed vendor submitting the design for approval (usually in less than two hours). So, licensing should not impact the length of time a vendor can deliver custom t-shirts to chapters.

Can we order customized t-shirts from Crown & Co.?

  • Yes, Crown & Co. can order all your custom apparel and gifts. In fact, we strongly encourage it because Crown & Co. proceeds help to fund Fraternity programming. For ordering information, contact Crown & Co. by phone at 317-872-0540 or by e-mail.

Why did Zeta Tau Alpha make this change?

  • We were one of the last Greek organizations to enter a licensing agreement. After much research and discussion, National Council made the decision to sign an agreement. In order to protect the heritage of our marks and maintain ownership of them, we must have a program in place to monitor their use. Just think of how different our Coat of Arms would look if it were passed from one vendor to another without any quality control. If our marks are used inappropriately, it reflects poorly on our organization and our members. Licensing is designed to protect Zeta Tau Alpha and present a positive public image.

How will the licensing agreement affect price, product availability and variety?

  • Overall, product pricing has stayed very reasonable, and in many cases, has remained unchanged. Members continue to have numerous products available to them as the number of licensed vendors, continues to increase each year. The selection includes a wide variety of products, ranging from lamps and afghans to candles and baby clothes. Our goal is to license only vendors who produce quality ZTA merchandise and provide excellent customer service.

Has licensing made an impact on the negative imagery used by vendors?

  • Yes, Sigma Chi won a lawsuit against a vendor who glorified alcohol use among college students. As a result of licensing, ZTA has been able to reject offensive t-shirt designs and products that find no place in advancing ZTA’s mission.

As a member of ZTA, do I have rights to the trademarks?

  • No. For consistency and trademark protection, ZTA Fraternity is the exclusive owner of the trademarks, which is defined in our policies. Chapters and members should purchase ZTA merchandise only from those companies that have received authorization from ZTA. What do we do when we find a company who is not licensed, but is producing ZTA merchandise? Please let us know. You can help protect the reputation and quality image of ZTA by sending an e-mail to crown&co@zetataualpha.org or vendors@greeklicensing.com.

The new trademark and licensing policies will affect alumnae chapters that sell items at Zeta Days and other gatherings.

  1. All Zeta Day vendors must be approved vendors with a ZTA licensing agreement. To receive a complete list of these vendors, contact Lindsay McCormick at International Office or visit www.greeklicensing.com → Clients → Zeta Tau Alpha. Because these vendors already pay a fee to the Fraternity through the licensing agreement, individual Zeta Days will not receive ZTA Foundation credit for the vendor’s donation.
  2. Alumnae chapters or individuals re-selling manufactured ZTA items must purchase them from approved vendors only.
  3. Alumnae chapters selling handmade items to benefit the chapter, the Fraternity of the ZTA Foundation do not need approval from AMC but must obtain design approval from their Vice President Alumnae prior to selling or giving away the items.
  4. Individuals and alumnae chapters selling hand-made items for personal profit or to benefit a non-Zeta entity must request approval through Affinity Marketing and sign a contract stating that they will give 8.5% of the profits back to the Fraternity.

If you have any questions about these policies, please contact your Vice President Alumnae.
