Position Title: Editor

Reporting Relationship: Senior Director of Communication

Position Status: Nonexempt, hourly, full time

Position Location: Carmel, Indiana (local preferred, remote considered)

Position Summary: This team member serves as the primary editor and copy editor for Zeta Tau Alpha by reviewing all written materials and overseeing the production of the quarterly magazine, Themis. She/he is an instrumental part of managing the ZTA brand and crafting the voice of Zeta Tau Alpha.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, communication, public relations or a related field
  • Three to five years of professional experience in a communication field
  • Strong editing skills and a command of AP Style
  • Ability to think creatively and critically, balance diverse tasks and manage projects from multiple entities
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign

Responsibilities

Editor/Copy Editor

  • Serve as the principal editor and copy editor for the three entities: Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, ZTA Foundation and ZTA Fraternity Housing Corporation; balance and prioritize projects as they are assigned
  • Write, edit, proofread and format blog posts, e-newsletters, mailings, educational materials, manuals, etc.
  • Conduct research and interviews for various ZTA publications
  • Maintain AP and ZTA styles on all projects
  • Update and revise the ZTA Style Guide as needed
  • Oversee the production of the quarterly magazine, Themis, from start to finish, including the management of involved staff members and contributors
  • Create and implement a production schedule for each issue and a content calendar for the year alongside the Senior Director of Communication
  • Communicate with key National Officers and staff to outline publication needs in specific areas
  • Conceptualize the design of each issue with the Graphic Designer and Senior Director of Communication
  • Write articles and copy as needed

Magazine Editor
