Position Title: Editor

Reporting Relationship: Senior Director of Communication

Position Status: Nonexempt, hourly, full time

Position Location: Carmel, Indiana (remote considered)

Position Summary: The editor is an instrumental part of managing and crafting the voice of Zeta Tau Alpha. In addition to overseeing the production of the Fraternity's quarterly magazine, the person in this role works closely with all staff to edit and proofread training and educational materials, event programming, correspondence, video scripts and more.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, English, communication or related field
  • Three to five years of professional experience in the communication or publishing field
  • An understanding of the four levels of editing (developmental, conceptual, line and copy) and proofreading
  • Strong writing skills
  • A command of AP Style
  • Ability to think creatively and critically, balance a wide range of tasks and manage projects from multiple entities
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (Drive, Documents)
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign preferred
  • Experience working with a print magazine is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the production of the quarterly magazine, Themis, from start to finish, including the management of involved staff members and contributors
    • Create and implement a production schedule for each issue
    • Communicate with key National Officers and staff to outline publication needs in specific areas
    • Collaborate with the Graphic Designer on each issue
  • Write pieces of varying length for the magazine as needed
  • Serve as the principal editor for the three entities: Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, ZTA Foundation and ZTA Fraternity Housing Corporation; balance and prioritize projects as needed
  • Write and/or edit blog posts, e-newsletters, mailings, educational materials, manuals, etc.
  • Maintain AP and ZTA styles on all projects
  • Update and revise the ZTA Style Guide and ZTA website as needed
  • Edit all documents and act as the final reviewer to ensure accuracy across the organization’s communication
