Refer a PNM
Refer a potential new member
Would your best friend’s daughter, the girl next door or a young woman you’ve volunteered with be a great ZTA? Refer a potential new member by submitting a Membership Information Sheet (MIS) to the ZTA chapter at her school.
Alumnae can help our collegians identify potential new members (PNMs) who already have an interest in ZTA. Visit the Sisters Only site for guidance on how to complete the Online MIS Form.
An MIS form is a valuable recruitment tool only if it is submitted by an alumna who has a personal relationship with the PNM. As a best practice, an alumna should avoid submitting a reference in response to a request from a PNM she does not know. Instead, the alumna should encourage the PNM to explore her own personal network (i.e., school counselors, school leaders, teachers, friends of parents, neighbors, etc.) to find a ZTA alumna who knows her well enough to submit an MIS form on her behalf.
Note: Zeta Tau Alpha alerts its members to a type of business that appears to simplify the recruitment process for PNMs. These for-profit internet sites offer to assist PNMs with obtaining references. They charge a fee for college-bound women to have reference letters written for them and sent to their respective chapters in an automated online format. Both Zeta Tau Alpha and National Panhellenic Conference are aware of these sites, but do not support their use. College chapters and advisors are asked to alert their Province President if they receive one of these references and to not consider them as voluntary references.
Zeta Tau Alpha does not endorse the use of any third-party business (whether or not it charges a fee) that offers to help PNMs obtain references for several reasons, including that these third-party businesses place the responsibility of obtaining a reference on the PNMs, rather than on the chapter. ZTA has resources available for alumnae to use for submitting references. There is no reason for PNMs to pay for references. There is no way to verify that the writers of these references from these websites are ZTA members.
If a Zeta receives a reference request from a third-party site, she should instead follow the procedures outlined on Sisters Only site’s Refer a Member page.
