The mission of the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation

The mission of the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation, Inc., through successful fundraising by alumnae and collegians, is to fulfill the founding principles of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity by providing, in compliance with IRS guidelines, support for programs that are educational, philanthropic and always responsive to the needs of a changing society, further enhancing Zeta Tau Alpha’s leadership position in the fraternity/sorority community and its influence in the world.

The ZTA Foundation was chartered in 1954 an is a tax-exempt organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Code, Section 501(c)3. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible, with a fiscal year from August 1 to July 31.

Educational Programs

Foundation-funded programs focus on mental health, alcohol abuse, sexual assault, prescription drug abuse and hazing prevention. In addition to a written program and discussion guide, some of these programs include videos and other collateral. These topics and programs are also regularly featured in ZTA's quarterly magazine, Themis.

Leadership Consultants

The Foundation supports portions of the ZTA Leadership Consultant program dealing with communication, leadership development, crisis management and related educational components.

Speakers

Attendees at ZTA’s Emerging Leaders Academy, Convention, Officer Leadership Academies, Panhellenic conferences and other regional seminars benefit from speakers with expertise in areas that fulfill the Foundation’s mission. The Foundation provides funding for these speakers.

Outstanding Alumna Award

Every other year at Convention, the Foundation presents the Outstanding Alumna Award to a Zeta Tau Alpha alumna who has made notable contributions in her profession and to society. As a featured Convention speaker, this woman serves as a role model for our members. This award was first given at Convention 1982. Past recipients represent a wide range of interests, including a Pulitzer Prize winner, the first woman Marine Corps General, award-winning journalists, the director of the Federal Trade Commission and several philanthropists. Nominations for these awards are due in the fall prior to each Convention.
