Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Update | Winter 2020
Since the introduction of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan, Zeta Tau Alpha has worked diligently and collaboratively to make progress on its initiatives. The organization has approached this work by prioritizing education and awareness with the launch of trainings, workshops and resources for members and staff.
In the past three months, more than 10,000 members completed a virtual module for collegiate development addressing the topics of personal and social identities, power, privilege, oppression, bias, allyship, active listening and self-care. In addition, 438 alumnae and staff members completed a separate module designed to provide a deeper understanding of how to incorporate inclusion in the workplace.
Evaluations to assess the development and effectiveness of the new My Sister, My Responsibility®: Seeking Understanding workshops are now available for members to complete. ZTA's guide to recruitment is receiving an in-depth update to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the forefront of its recruitment practices, training, and promotion.
Other areas of significant progress include identifying an external firm to conduct a membership audit, hiring a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager, updating the National Visitation Policy to eliminate gendered-language, and establishing inclusive language and responsibilities as it relates to officer positions.
Beyond these efforts, the Fraternity is committed to making the changes necessary to advance sisterhood and belonging for all members. You can check out current updates and the full Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan here.
