Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Update | Fall 2021
This month marks one year since Zeta Tau Alpha publicly introduced its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan. With national calls for anti-racism and social justice last summer, the Fraternity has made great strides, including reviewing policies, launching an internal audit to gain a deeper picture of members’ experiences with diversity, adding education and training to increase competence, and initiating a number of strategic efforts focused on inclusion.
Other areas of significant progress include:
- Enhancing the annual review process for staff by including a new section on Working Across Difference
Staff members will self-evaluate and receive evaluations in this category from their supervisors during yearly performance reviews.
Hosting a virtual workshop, which introduced the new Guide to Recruitment and Retention and practical tips for an inclusive recruitment experience for all individuals involved, to kick off Recruitment
- Adding a virtual training focused on diversity, equity and inclusion into the Zeta Is Forever New Member Experience
New members are required to complete the course prior to Initiation.
The Fraternity will continue requiring this course as part of onboarding training for chapter officers.
Reviewing online officer workshops and training to incorporate more inclusive language and wording throughout the curriculum
Publishing an overview of ZTA’s Membership Selection Policy through the lens of belonging with the intention of seeking understanding in the fall 2021 issue of Themis
Including a workshop related to DEI during Alumnae and Collegiate National Officer academies to provide education and equip volunteers with resources to adequately foster inclusion through their roles
