Remembering Leah Fields Ozment
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Fraternity Housing Corporation Vice President Construction Leah Fields Ozment. Leah, 53, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 18, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, due to complications from COVID-19. She had been a member of the FHC board since 2016 and was elected to the Vice President role in 2018.
“Our prayers are with the Ozment family and all our ZTA sisters who are mourning the loss of Leah,” said National President Alicia Patten Williams. “We are so grateful for her dedication as a ZTA volunteer and National Officer.”
Leah was initiated at Nu Chapter (The University of Alabama) in 1986. As an alumna, she served Nu Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha House Corporation as president from 1999 to 2005 and treasurer from 2006 to 2008. She was instrumental in overseeing the construction of the chapter’s new house in 2017.
“Leah was a cherished member of our board and a wonderful friend and sister,” said FHC President Dinah Jackson Laughery. “She oversaw our new construction and major renovations with great love and care. Her dedication provided beautiful homes for hundreds of ZTA collegians.”
Sisters who worked with Leah speak of her quick wit and fabulous sense of humor. During this year’s virtual Sisterhood Celebration, she received her Honor Ring. In the video created from clips provided by this year’s recipients, she posed in a throne-like chair, wearing a tiara, pearls, a brooch and long, white gloves, doing the “royal wave” with her new ring on her pinky finger.
Leah received her Certificate of Merit in 2002. She also served as an advisor to Nu Chapter and as an officer in the Tuscaloosa, AL Alumnae Chapter.
Survivors include Leah’s husband, Tom, and their daughters, Sally and Mary Allison. Plans for memorial services and tributes are pending. Those who wish to remember Leah may send condolences to her family in care of International Office, 1036 S. Rangeline Road, Carmel, IN 46032.
