ZTA Grieves the Loss of Sister at The University of Texas at El Paso
Zeta Tau Alpha is mourning the passing of Aleyah Jorden Garnett, beloved sister of Gamma Gamma Chapter (The University of Texas at El Paso) who passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025.
Aleyah, 21, from El Paso, Texas was a junior majoring in education with a concentration in ecology and evolutionary biology. She was initiated into ZTA in spring 2023 and was currently acting as the chapter's Vice President Programming. Aleyah previously served as VP Philanthropy & Service, and on the Recruitment team. She also supported sorority life on campus as Panhellenic President and Panhellenic VP Recruitment.
"Aleyah was a pillar of leadership, strength, and compassion, not only within Gamma Gamma, but throughout the entire Fraternity & Sorority Life and UTEP communities through her involvement on campus," shared chapter President Brissa Macias. "She was a guiding light who truly embodied the values of ZTA. Aleyah’s legacy will live on in our hearts through the loyalty, dedication, and love she showed each of us every day."
Zeta Tau Alpha sends its deepest sympathies to Aleyah’s family during this difficult time. Chapter sisters are being supported through a strong network of care and guidance. Alumnae and advisors have been encouraging and compassionate, remaining readily available as a listening ear for the women of Gamma Gamma. In addition, UTEP is providing both individual and group counseling services to support our sisters who may need assistance, care, or guidance during this time.
